Release Notes – FileCenter
The following are feature enhancements between versions. For a complete list of changes between minor versions, see the change log.
7.1.0.48 (2011-11-08)
- Print multiple PDF files at once from "PDF Actions" > "Print Documents".
- You can now add a folder template using a drawer's layout as your model. "Drawers" button > "New Template from Folders".
- When previewing files in the search results, we now offer improved hit highlighting for PDFs which shows the hits highlighted in the actual PDF.

- You can now preview links to files.
- Added Save/Open support for Dutch systems.
- New feature: double-clicking a drawer or folder expands all of its sub-folders. Activate it from "Settings" > "Manage Files" > "Double-clicking a drawer or folder ... ".
- New file sorting options: click the "View Options" button above the list of files to get a list of sorting options. This allows you to sort in any file view, including thumbnails.

- New feature: Separators can now have relative paths if you scan in Manage view. In other words, you can use the same set of separators to scan into any drawer. When you set the separator's Destination, choose "Selected Path" instead of "Fixed Path".

- You can right-click on a cabinet tab and get the Windows properties for the cabinet's folder ("Root Folder Properties").

- The shared settings engine has been completely rewritten. Shared settings are now stored in a database and are more flexible and more capable.

- 64-bit Save/Open driver: The Save/Open dialogs now work with Office 2010 64-bit and the FileCenter PDF printer on 64-bit systems.
- We now update the search indexes after an in-place scan or OCR if the cabinet is auto-indexed.
- New setting: Settings > "Miscellaneous" > "Use Windows Send To Mail Recipient". This setting invokes Windows' built-in SendMail function instead of using MAPI when you send files from FileCenter. It might help users who have trouble sending files.
- New OCR option: Remove Blank Pages. Drops blank pages from the file.
- New setting: "Enable Full File Refreshing" (Settings > Manage Files > Enable Full File Refreshes). Use this setting if some file info, like Size and Date Modified, doesn't update properly.

- You can open a selected PDF in Edit view by holding down the Ctrl key while you click the Edit tab.

- Now allowing "EFX" files to be converted to PDF (if your system supports it).

- The scanning transfer modes have been updated (Tools > Settings > PDF/Scan > Scanning Transfer Mode). Mode A is the equivalent of Native in older versions, Mode C the equivalent of Alternate, and Mode B is a new option. Mode B will be the default for new installs and should be tried first if you're having communication/transfer problems with your scanner.
- You're now allowed to drop files into a cabinet which is set to disallow deletions.

- You can copy files from search results with Ctrl+C or right-click "Copy to Clipboard". One use is for copying/pasting as a means to attach files in Outlook e-mails.

- The "Cabinets" dialog has a new look and feel.
- Indexing can now be managed from the "Cabinets" dialog.
- Cabinets have a new setting: "Layout". There are a number of layout styles available: drawers in a drop-list, do not use drawers (an expolorer-style view), do not use folders, automatically open the Split view. Each cabinet can have its own layout.
- The "Inbox" is now a cabinet type, allowing you to have more than one.
- New "Most Recent" button on the Save/Open dialogs lets you quickly jump to recently used locations.
- New setting for the Save/Open dialogs: "Ignore FileCenter Location". With this setting activated, the Save/Open dialogs will not be influenced by where you are in FileCenter. They'll always come back to the last location used.
- The Outlook integration has been completely updated.
- Outlook cabinets are easier to create and manage, and more flexible. You now add them like regular cabinets, then select a contact list to use for the cabinet. You can then choose which contacts you want to show and which you don't. You can also add extra drawers. Because it's now more like a standard cabinet, it's easier to share on the network.
- New, more streamlined Outlook email management is now completely separate from Outlook cabinets.
- Two modes for saving Outlook email: simple and advanced. With the advanced, option, you can associate as many paths with a contact as you want.
- You can save multiple emails at the same time.

- New scanning option: Remove Blank Pages. This attempts to identify blank pages by how much non-white they have and remove them from the scan.
- New scanning option: Deskew Pages. This attempts to straighten pages that have been scanned in crooked.
- New scanning option: Imvert Pages. If your scanner produces images that look like a negative (white text on a black background), this option will correct them.

- FileCenter Professional
- This is the equivalent of the old FileCenter Pro + FilePDF Pro bundle without the Advanced OCR engine. It has all of the file management and scanning/pdf features.
- FileCenter Standard
- This is the equivalent of the old FileCenter Standard + FilePDF Standard. It has basic file management integrated with basic scanning.
- Enhanced preview gives more accurate previews and supports many more file types. (FileCenter Professional)
- Enhanced thumbnails view provides thumbnails for many more file types and lets you scroll through pages. (FileCenter Professional)
- New option: Send > Email As lets you rename email attachments.
- You can now combine (merge/stack) PDF files just by dragging/dropping them onto each other in FileCenter. It's not necessary to open the files at all. (FileCenter Professional)
- If you use the new Enhanced Thumbnails view for files, there are PDF-specific File Tasks that are now available, like splitting a PDF file, deleting a page from a PDF file, or extracting a page from a PDF file, all without ever opening the file. (FileCenter Professional)
- New option for embedding OCR text: character-aligned or not character-aligned.
- PDF files with compressed streams and other advanced PDF features can now be opened.
- New Inbox for filing incoming files (scans, faxes, etc.). The Inbox shows up with the cabinet tabs. When you select it, it splits the screen and pops open to the folder where your incoming scans/faxes/files arrive (set the folder in Settings > Manage Files > Inbox Root Path. - New Drop Renaming feature: in Split view, when you drag/drop a file from top-to-bottom, FileCenter can automatically rename it. A new Drop Name field is available on the split window. You can select a naming option here. Then any file you drag/drop will be renamed using the naming option. Bulk drag/drop works too. This feature is designed for rapid filing, especially when paired with the new Inbox feature. (FileCenter Professional)

There are also hotkeys for doing the same thing: Ctrl+Down = expand selected folder, Ctrl+Shift+Down = expand all folders; corrolaries are Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Shift+Up for collapsing.
