I have read the numerous articles on scanning incoming documents as a step in the process of becoming "paper less." In an effort to initiate the process I have purchased an HP Scanjet 8250, Acrobat 7.0 Pro and PaperPort 10 pro. An OCR package called Readiris pro 8 came with the HP. My desire is to scan incoming documents, preserving the image for reproduction purposes and having either an index or searchable version of the text as well. It seems that Acrobat and PaperPort both have the ability to create searchable text. Has anyone determined the best method of accomplishing the scan, conversion to PDF, and creating searchable text in easy steps?

Regarding Edgars question about "the best method of accomplishing the scan, conversion to PDF, and creating searchable text in easy steps?" you won't like this (because you bought a handful of products to do what one does)... but again, FileCenter does this automatically (you wouldn't need Acrobat, or any of the other programs).

As you can see, I'm really impressed with FileCenter and related their off-site backup program called FileBackup. FileBackup is nice, it automatically backs up all of your data offsite in the middle of the night. If your office burns down (or you have another disaster), they can restore all of your data to another computer within minutes/hours. If you don't already do off-site backup... it is worth looking into. The cost to backup our entire server??? About 3 hours of billable time a year! Consider me SOLD!
