Recommended Scanners for FileCenter

FileCenter and a great scanner go hand in hand. Since one of its most powerful features is quick and easy scanning, FileCenter is significantly enhanced by the right document scanner.

We have years of experience watching our customers' successes and frustrations with their scanners. So while FileCenter should work with any TWAIN-compliant scanner, we thought it would be helpful to offer a few scanners that we highly recommend and use internally here at FileCenter.

All of the scanners below have been well tested with FileCenter and are priced as low as you'll find anywhere on the web. Happy scanning!

Canon DR-M260 Desktop Document Scanner  (most popular)

This high-speed, high-capacity workhorse can reliably handle an assortment of document types, such as thick, thin, oversized, and even plastic embossed cards. Includes its own image processing CPU, making fast, high-quality scanning possible without depending on PC performance. Paper feeding and eject sensors are incorporated to help prevent paper jams and damage to documents. The scanner also incorporates left and right feeding rollers that revolve independently to help prevent skewed feeding when different size documents are scanned together.

Scanner Guidelines

Please consider the following in your search for a good scanner. Look for a scanner that:

  • Has an automatic sheet feeder
  • Scans at 200 DPI resolution minimum
  • Scans in black & white, grayscale, and color
  • Scans at least 25 pages per minute
  • Scans in duplex (double-sided)
  • Has a high-quality TWAIN driver
  • Connects via USB cable*

*Wireless scanning has become a popular option. In our experience, however, the wireless connections are not always reliable. Stick with USB connections for reliable, fast scanning.

What about Multifunction Machines?

Users seem to experience a natural draw towards affordable multifunction machines: print + fax + scanning + copier. The appeal is certainly there. But how do they perform?

Multifunction machines produce more technical support frustrations than any other scanner. These are the ultimate example of "Jack of all trades, master of none."

There is not a single multifunction machine that we will recommend.
